How to convert EML to HTML
Use HTML when you need a readable copy that opens in a browser and lets you select or search the message text. The converter creates a standalone document from the message preview, with an optional subject and sender block.
- Open an .eml email or try the sample message.
- Choose Web page (.html) and decide whether to include the email headers.
- Download the HTML file and open it in a browser. Save attachments separately if you need them.
What is kept in the HTML download?
The downloaded document includes the styling needed for its own reading layout. Supported embedded images travel inside the file, so the page does not need to contact an image server to display them. Links to external websites remain links; opening one still requires access to its destination.
| Part of the email | Export behavior |
|---|---|
| Message text | Remains readable and selectable; plain-text-only emails retain line breaks. |
| Basic formatting | Supported inline colors, spacing, tables and text styles are retained. |
| Embedded images | Matching PNG, JPEG, GIF and WebP content-ID images become embedded data. |
| Remote content | External images, stylesheets, fonts and active content are blocked or removed. |
| Attached files | Available separately in Attachments; not packaged inside the HTML page. |
A readable export, with simplified email HTML
An EML message can contain several MIME parts, transport headers and binary attachments. The HTML download is a new document containing the selected readable body and optional main headers. It does not preserve the complete MIME source or every original HTML element.
Scripts, forms, event handlers and unsupported styling are removed. External stylesheets and style blocks are excluded, while supported inline styles are kept. A newsletter that depends on those removed styles can look different from the original mail application. Review the preview before saving; the converter leaves your original EML untouched.
If you need the original decoded HTML bytes for debugging, open the email in the MIME structure viewer and download its HTML part. That raw part is different from this sanitized, standalone reading copy.
Open the sample HTML offline
The example was generated from the fictional Fern Studio EML with the main headers included. Download it and open the saved file to compare its text and layout. The sample has no external pictures; its text attachment is available only from the source email.
When HTML is a better fit than PDF or an image
Choose HTML for copying text, searching a long message or following its links. PDF is useful for a paginated visual copy, while PNG or JPG gives you an image to insert in another document. EMLKit's PDF output is image-based, so HTML is the option to use when selectable text matters.
HTML also avoids the height limit of image-based exports. The email still needs to fit within the 25 MB input limit. An HTML copy does not replace the source EML when you need to import the message into a mail application later.
EML to HTML questions
Does the exported HTML work offline?
Yes. Supported inline PNG, JPG, GIF, and WebP images are embedded in the file. Images that link to remote servers are excluded, and attachments remain separate downloads.
Is the exported HTML identical to the original source?
It is a sanitized, readable copy. Scripts, forms, external stylesheets, and unsupported styling are removed for safe viewing. The original EML file is never changed.
What if the email only contains plain text?
Plain-text emails are exported as readable HTML with their line breaks preserved. The text remains selectable.
Does my data leave my device?
Your selected files and pasted text are processed in your browser, without being uploaded to EMLKit. Remove the input or leave the page to clear the current workspace. Ordinary page requests still reach the site host. Read about file handling.
