How to convert MSG to EML
MSG uses Outlook storage properties; EML uses MIME. Renaming the extension cannot convert between them. This converter reads the supported Outlook email properties, lets you inspect the result and rebuilds an EML message in your browser.
- Open a .msg email or try the fictional Outlook sample.
- Review the body, sender, recipients and attachments.
- Keep EML selected and download the rebuilt message.
What can change during MSG conversion
Supported text and HTML bodies, addresses, subject, date and decoded attachments are written as MIME. Unicode names, attachment filenames and supported inline images are retained. You can inspect the decoded message before choosing a download.
Outlook-specific properties, complex RTF, original delivery records and signatures are not carried into the new EML. Calendar, contact and encrypted items are outside the converter scope. The encoded result must fit 25 MB; keep the original MSG for records or later troubleshooting.
Try an Outlook message conversion
Open the fictional MSG sample, check its subject and attachment list, then download EML. Reopen it in your destination mail application or MIME structure viewer and compare the sender, recipients, body and attachment.
Conversion is useful when a reader accepts MIME email but cannot open Outlook MSG storage. It does not transfer a mailbox, folder structure or Outlook account. Renaming a .msg file to .eml only changes its name and leaves the original storage format intact.

When a message cannot be converted fully
A blank or incomplete preview can mean the source depends on unsupported RTF or Outlook properties. Rebuilding an EML cannot restore a body the parser did not read. Open that item in its original application and export a supported email copy when possible.
The rebuilt file can be larger because MIME encodes binary attachments. If it exceeds the output limit, try a smaller source message. Original authentication headers and signatures are not carried over, so retain the MSG if you need to examine the original item later.
MSG to EML questions
Do I need Outlook installed?
No. Supported MSG email data is read in the browser and written into an EML download.
Is the EML identical to the original MSG?
No. It is a rebuilt MIME copy of supported email content. Outlook properties and original transport records are not preserved.
Does my data leave my device?
Your selected files and pasted text are processed in your browser, without being uploaded to EMLKit. Remove the input or leave the page to clear the current workspace. Ordinary page requests still reach the site host. Read about file handling.
