How to convert MSG to PDF
A PDF gives you a readable document to keep or share when the recipient cannot open an Outlook MSG file. Open one saved message, review its supported content and export the preview. The original MSG remains unchanged.
- Open a .msg email or choose Try a sample email.
- Set File format to PDF, choose A4 or US Letter and select whether to include email headers.
- Download the PDF. Use Attachments to save any files that need to accompany it.
Page size and the email header block
A4 and US Letter produce portrait PDF pages with margins. Long message bodies continue across multiple pages; the exporter looks for nearby blank space when placing page breaks. Very tall emails can exceed the browser's image-export limit, so HTML is a useful alternative when PDF export cannot complete.
Include email headers adds the subject and the available From, To, Cc and Date fields above the body. Turn it off to save only the message content. This summary is separate from the full transport headers, which some MSG files do not contain.
Compare the MSG source with its PDF
This A4 PDF was generated from EMLKit's fictional MSG sample with the header option enabled. The sample includes the subject Studio visit 你好 and a small text attachment. The PDF shows the readable message; download the attachment from the source MSG when you need that file as well.
What changes when Outlook email becomes PDF?
A PDF is a visual reading copy. It does not preserve the Outlook container, editable message properties or full original structure. Keep the MSG if you may need to reopen it in a mail application. For selectable text and working links, choose Web page (.html) in the export panel.
| Source content | PDF result |
|---|---|
| Supported HTML or plain text | Rendered as the cleaned message shown in the preview. |
| Main email properties | Added when the header option is enabled and values are available. |
| Regular attachments | Not embedded or converted into PDF pages; save them separately. |
| Remote content and unsupported formatting | Blocked, omitted or simplified as in the preview. |
| Email text | Rasterized into page images; not selectable or searchable. |
Supported MSG files and conversion limits
The converter handles email messages with a supported body, up to 25 MB per input. It processes one file at a time. Choose Open another when you want to convert the next email; there is no batch folder conversion in this version.
Some MSG files rely on rich-text or Outlook-specific content that the parser cannot fully reproduce. Encrypted, rights-managed, contact and calendar items are not supported. If the preview has no readable body, a PDF cannot recover that missing content; try exporting a readable EML from the original mail application.
You can use the tool on a Mac, Windows or Linux computer with a modern browser. No Outlook installation is required. Inspect the preview before downloading, particularly when layout, embedded images or non-Latin text matter for the copy you plan to share.
MSG to PDF questions
Is the PDF searchable?
No. PDF pages are image-based to preserve the rendered appearance. Use HTML export for selectable text.
Does the PDF include attachments?
No. Download attached files separately, individually or in a ZIP, from the Attachments tab.
Will it look exactly like Outlook?
The PDF follows the sanitized browser preview. Remote images, active content and unsupported Outlook formatting are excluded. Check the preview before downloading.
Can I convert several MSG files at once?
This version converts one MSG file at a time, up to 25 MB. Open another file to convert the next message.
Does my data leave my device?
Your selected files and pasted text are processed in your browser, without being uploaded to EMLKit. Remove the input or leave the page to clear the current workspace. Ordinary page requests still reach the site host. Read about file handling.
